About MFMBA

Our Purpose

If you or someone you love is severely burned, there is help.

A burn injury is devastating—physically, emotionally and financially. And the effects are so far-reaching, that the burn victim’s family members and other loved ones are integral parts of the patient’s treatment, healing and recovery.

That’s why the Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Association exists.
  • If you need specialized supplies to insure recovery, we are here to help.
  • If you need costly medications for treatment and healing, we will help with the expenses.
  • If you need assistance with the costs involved in traveling to and from the burn center while the burn victim is hospitalized, we will help cover those needs.
  • And, best of all, our services are available whether or not you can afford to pay.
Our Mission

Caring, serving, assisting
Mississippi Firefighters Memorial Burn Association (MFMBA) was founded in 1976 as a non-profit organization dedicated to the mission of offering financial assistance to burn victims who truly need our help to overcome some of the hardships a serious injury presents.

Through tax-exempt donations and grassroots fundraising efforts from firefighters, civic organizations and private citizens throughout the state of Mississippi, the Burn Association helps burn victims meet the high costs incurred during treatment and recovery.

Meeting the needs of patients and their families
From the time Mississippi’s burn center closed in 2005 until the 2008 opening of our new Joseph M. Still Burn Center Outpatient Clinic at Crossgates River Oaks Hospital in Brandon, Mississippi, approximately 200 burn patients and their family members were forced to travel to and from the renowned Joseph M. Still Burn Center in Augusta, Georgia, for burn care. Even more patients and families traveled to other out-of-state burn facilities.

For all those patients and family members, MFMBA provided  the supplies, medications and travel expenses needed for burn recovery, regardless of ability to pay. This is our mission, and that will not change, no matter where Mississippi’s burn victims must go to receive proper treatment.

The need for assistance continues after the burn patient is released from the hospital, as well. Two very expensive pressure garments are necessary to promote the burn victim’s healing. Sadly, the costs of these essential garments are not covered for adults through Medicare or Medicaid. MFMBA subsidizes these large expenses. In addition, financial assistance for medications needed for recovery and travel expenses needed for follow-up outpatient visits is available through MFMBA.
