CHRISTMAS IS ALMOST HERE AND YOUR HELP IS DESPERATELY NEEDED!
EVENT: SHOP WITH THE DOC
WHEN: DECEMBER 2, 2009
WHERE: WALMART in
“Shop With the Doc” is one of three events held each year by the MFMBA for the children who are victims of severe burns. These children are from families with very limited income, most with no insurance. Many of the parents of these children have had to sacrifice their jobs in order to stay with their child while being treated at the Burn Center, causing an even larger financial burden. These children have suffered excruciating pain and have had to stay in the hospital for months at a time. Also, many of these children have visible scars that make them feel “less than normal.” Many times they are the victims of children’s snide remarks, therefore, being embarrassed by how they look or by going out in public. Sometimes their scars are hidden by their clothing but the psychological scars are still there. By being with other children at these events who have similar scars and who have suffered the pain which they have endured, often makes these children less embarrassed by being in public and also, gives them more confidence and self-esteem. Every child who has been a patient at the Burn Center will be invited to attend a night of shopping with the doctor from the Burn Center. Santa and Sparky the Fire Dog will also join the children. We plan a fun filled night for the children which will include entertainment as well as pizza and snacks. Each child will be given a $150 Wal-Mart gift card to spend on whatever they wish. The $150 can only be spent on items for that child, not for anyone else in the family. In order for every child to participate, a sponsor for each child will have to be found. A volunteer accompanies each child through the store to make certain that the gift card is only used for items for the burn victim.
We are inviting over 90 children to participate in this years event. This is a request for you and/or your business to consider sponsoring a child in order for them to have a gift card to participate with “Shop With the Doc.” The sponsor is invited to the event and, if they desire, help with the child’s selection of gifts. We would love for you to join us but, of course, it is not required. We need to raise $14,000 in order for these children to each have a gift card. So you can see that each dollar makes a difference, therefore, any help would be appreciated. If you would consider donating any amount of money to help adopt one or more of these children who have endured such pain and suffering and help put smiles on their precious faces, please send your check to MFMBA (address below) with a notation that it is for “Shop With the Doc.” If you prefer, you could also buy a $150 Wal-Mart gift card to be handed directly to the child but, if you plan to do this, please let me know in advance so I will know that a particular child will be adopted.
Please send your tax deductible donation as soon as possible to the address above. This event will be held on December 2 and we do not want any child to be left without a gift card. If you have any questions, please give me a call. Thank you for your consideration.
